Computer-aided personal radiation monitoring system (APRMS)

Purpose:
automated execution of personal radiation monitoring (PRM) in companies

APRMS provides:
data receipt from personal radiation monitoring equipment; centralized storage of personal radiation monitoring information; processing and output of personal radiation monitoring information.

APRMS is a functional structure which include measuring equipment, data-computing network, communications, and software for automated personal radiation monitoring.

APRMS structure:

  • "Routine monitoring" subsystem — routine personal radiation monitoring of external irradiation.
    "Routine monitoring" subsystem supports the following equipment:
    TL (thermoluminescent) radiation monitoring systems (readers RE-1, RE-2000), Harshaw.
  • "Operating monitoring" subsystem — operating personal radiation monitoring of external irradiation.
    "Operating monitoring" subsystem supports the following equipment:
    all-purpose reader for direct reading electronic dosimeters, intended for individual entrance in/exit out of controlled-access area АDR-101;
    direct reading electronic photon and neutron dosimeters:

    /Rad52/62S (readers АDR-101, ADR-1, -85, -285);
    direct reading electronic photon and neutron dosimeters:
    DMC-2000S

  • "BRS" subsystem — information, routine and operating monitoring of internal irradiation based on "Body radiation spectrometer" measuring complex.
    "Body radiation spectrometer" subsystem supports the following equipment:
    gamma-radiation spectrometer SKG -АТ1316А "Control BRS "
    gamma-radiation spectrometer SKG -АТ1322 "Iodine BRS "
    gamma-radiation spectrometer "Measurement BRS "

    scintillator and semiconductor gamma-radiation detectors manufactured by Ortec, Canberra, AtomTex.

"Body radiation spectrometer" software is an integral part of internal irradiation monitoring software SW NPP APRMS. "BRS" software is intended for radionuclide content measurement in body, lungs and thyroid of a human being. "BRS" software is intended for the use of NPP personnel internal irradiation dose rate monitoring methods (measurement methods). The software is connected with personnel database and BRS database. Software output allows to calculate internal irradiation dose using database tools.

  • Radionuclide content measurement in human body by means of "Measurement BRS" unit. MVI is approved on 17.09.06.
  • Determination of average soft tissue penetration depth, and value of penetrated plutonium and americium isotope activity. MVI is approved on 20/05/2005.
  • Determination of Am-241 content in knee joint of the human being. MVI is approved on 05/05/2005.
  • Determination of Am-241 content in human lungs. MVI is approved on 05/05/2005.
